The Science Camp

The Science Camp

This year Citadel offer an out-of-this world array of scientific experiments and explorations. The Science Camp will present a series of talks to expand your mind, from guest speakers, scientists, artists & acclaimed institutions, as well as fun workshops, silly experiments, stand-up comedy & poetry.

From “Lessons in Lucid Dreaming” through to explosive chemistry classes for grown-ups, the programme moves from the small & serious, to the downright silly.

‘ROBOTS’ with THE SCIENCE MUSEUM
The Science Museum will be presenting an exciting talk about the 500-year quest in trying to make machines human, from the Curator of the mind-bending ‘ROBOTS’ exhibition. Not to be missed.

OPEN SENSES AND FUTUREPLAY PRESENT

‘IS VIRTUAL REALITY A GOOD IDEA?’
Open Senses & FuturePlay plan to turn up the heat a little when they propose the question “Is Virtual Reality actually a good idea?!” to a panel of tech experts and VR specialists.

‘CONSIDER YOUR NOSE IN ART & LIFE’ WITH SARAH MCCARTNEY
Sarah McCartney – founder and creator of award winning perfume studio 4160 Tuesdays – will be asking you to Consider Your Nose In Art & Life.

‘AN EXPLORATION IN SENSES’ WITH STEPH SINGER (BITTERSUITE)
Creative director and composer, Stephanie founded multi-sensory company BitterSuite in 2013. It has since developed three fully immersive multi-sensory experiences with tours in The Royal Academy of Arts, TedX, Brooklyn Academy of Music (NYC), The Roundhouse, Nesta, and FutureFest.

“Lust, Sex & Brains” takes the idea of Speed Dating to a Sensory New Level. Join Guerilla Science for a multisensory exploration of attraction. Discover how your senses, brain and body react when you meet a special someone, and investigate the science behind those magical moments.

THE SCIENTIFIC SECRETS OF DOCTOR WHO with SIMON GUERRIER
Illustrated talk using clips from the TV show, Simon Guerrier will show how Doctor Who uses science to inform its unique style of storytelling – and just how close it has often come to predicting future scientific discoveries.

IS THERE ALIEN LIFE IN OUR GALAXY? WITH LIEVEN SCHEIRE
After selling out his Edinburgh Festival and London Soho Theatre seasons, this unique, non fiction stand up takes little concepts like, oh you know, Drake’s Equation, and explains them in a way that is not only accessible but also hilarious.

BACK TO SCHOOL – CHEMISTRY FOR ADULTS
School may well be out for summer, but come and join Smartee and Dr. Avshu for some classic, ‘back to school’ Chemistry demonstrations. If you’ve never seen elephant’s toothpaste or heard jelly babies scream, made mirrors or molten metal, then come along to witness some fantastic fun, funky and colourful chemistry…. the sort of thing Walter White got up to. Before he Broke Bad…
